Turning Foundations
Wood turning is a creative, fulfilling and above all fun hobby. If you have never picked up a chisel and have no idea what a jam chuck might be then a one day Turning Foundations session would be a great beginning for you. If you already have the basics under your belt then a Turning a Bowl session will build your confidence and show you the techniques to create bowls and platters.
Ross has been turning, demonstrating and teaching for over 20 years and is a qualified Vocational Training Specialist. Sessions are held on a one to one basis and designed to cater for learners at any level of confidence and ability.
All sessions are conducted with a strong emphasis on safety and include the use of tools and safety equipment. The supply of all learning materials, consumables and turning timbers is included. We have a variety of lathes and associated equipment and encourage a hands on learning method that includes making items to take home with you at the end of the day.
In Turning Foundations you will cover the basics of :

Tool selection
Sharpening and Tool Maintenance
Timber selection and preparation
Spindle work
Face plate work
Sanding and Finishing
Turning Foundations sessions run from 9.00am to 4.30pm including morning/ afternoon tea. Cost: $450.

Turning Bowls
Turning Bowls is designed for those that have mastered the basics and are looking to build on their turning skills.Timber is provided
or you can bring along your own to create your special
piece.

Green turning and drying
Bowl sanding and Finishing
Bowl Turning sessions run from 9.00am to 4.30pm including morning/afternoon tea. Cost: $450.

Advanced Turning and Design
​
These sessions are designed to run over 2 days and are for the experienced turner wanting to go to the next level. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves and their skills. You might have an idea in mind or you're looking for inspiration. Timber for demonstration and learning is provided with students encouraged to bring along their timber for larger works they may wish to undertake. You are welcome to bring along your own chisels.
